AI Push In Anti-Graft Work: Govt Constitutes Expert Panel

Srinagar — The Jammu and Kashmir government has constituted an expert panel to explore the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in anti-corruption investigations and surveillance, officials confirmed on Friday.

The panel, comprising technology experts, law enforcement officials and administrative officers, has been tasked with developing an AI-based framework for identifying patterns of corruption, analysing financial transactions and flagging suspicious activities across government departments.

"AI can process vast amounts of data in ways that traditional methods cannot. By deploying machine learning algorithms, we can identify irregularities in procurement, contracts and fund utilisation much faster and more accurately," a senior official involved in the initiative said.

The panel will also look at international best practices in using technology for anti-corruption work, including models deployed in countries like Singapore, South Korea and Estonia.

Initial areas of focus will include analysis of government procurement data, property registration records and bank transaction patterns of public servants. The system is expected to generate alerts when it detects anomalies that warrant further investigation.

Anti-corruption activists have welcomed the move but cautioned that technology alone cannot solve the problem of corruption. "AI is a tool, not a solution. It needs to be backed by institutional reforms, strong legal frameworks and political will," said a transparency advocate based in Srinagar.

The panel has been asked to submit its initial recommendations within three months, following which a pilot programme will be launched in select departments.
