4 Drug Peddlers Arrested in Kulgam, Contraband Seized: Police

Kulgam, Apr 17: Continuing its crackdown against drug trafficking under the ongoing ‘Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyaan’, Kulgam Police on Friday arrested four drug peddlers in separate operations and recovered contraband substances from their possession.
Officials said that a police team from Police Station Kulgam, during patrolling at Chawalgam bypass near Chinar Park, intercepted two suspicious persons who attempted to flee on seeing the police party. However, they were swiftly chased and apprehended.
Upon search, police recovered around 1.07 kilograms of poppy straw-like substance from their possession. The accused were identified as Haroon Salam Nanda, a resident of Gasirana, and Masroof Ahmad Zargar, a resident of Okey Kulgam.
In another operation, police apprehended one Danish Ahmad Ahanger of Reshipora during naka checking near the Forest Office Kulgam. During his search, officers recovered 1.30 kilograms of charas and one gram of brown sugar.
Meanwhile, a team from Police Station DH Pora arrested another accused, Tariq Ahmad Lone of Tungdano Yaripora, during naka checking at Waripora Crossing. Police recovered 2.6 grams of heroin-like substance and Rs 13,200 in cash, believed to be proceeds of narcotics, from his possession. A Tata Mobile vehicle (JK18D-5095) used in the commission of the crime was also seized.
Police have registered cases under relevant sections of the NDPS Act at Police Station Kulgam and Police Station DH Pora, and investigations in all cases are underway.
Police reiterated their commitment to eradicate the drug menace from society and urged the public to cooperate in making the district drug-free.
