Anantnag Police Registers Case Under NDPS Act for Illegal Cultivation of Opium Poppy

Achabal, April 17, 2026 : Continuing its sustained efforts against the menace of narcotics, Police Station Achabal acted on specific and reliable information regarding illegal cultivation of contraband substances within its jurisdiction.
Acting promptly, a police team conducted a search operation and found that an individual identified as Gh. Mohd Dass Son in law of Gh. Qadir Ganie, a resident of Ganie Mohallah Akingam, had illegally cultivated opium poppy over approximately one kanal of orchard land near his residential house.
The illicit crop was detected and subsequently destroyed on the spot in accordance with legal procedures.
In this regard, a case FIR No. 26/2026 under relevant sections of the NDPS Act (U/S 8/18 NDPS Act) has been registered at Police Station Achabal, and investigation has been taken up.
Anantnag Police has appealed to the general public not to indulge in illegal cultivation of opium poppy or any other contraband crop. Such activity is a punishable offence under the NDPS Act and strict legal action will be taken against violators.
