Armenia Route Opens For Stranded Indian Students In Iran

Srinagar — Indian students stranded in Iran amid ongoing evacuation challenges have been offered an alternative exit route via Armenia, providing some relief to those facing prolonged delays at border points.

According to official sources, the Indian embassy in Tehran has been coordinating with Armenian authorities to facilitate the transit of Indian nationals, many of whom are medical students from Kashmir and other parts of India.

Students who spoke to the media described harrowing conditions at Iranian border crossings, with overcrowding, limited food supplies and a lack of clear communication from authorities adding to their distress.

"We have been waiting for days at the border. There is no clarity on when we can cross. The Armenia option is a lifeline for many of us," said a medical student from Srinagar currently stranded near the Iran-Armenia border.

The Indian government has also been in talks with Turkish and Iraqi authorities for additional evacuation corridors, though no formal routes have been announced through those countries.

Several families in Kashmir have expressed concern about the safety and well-being of their children studying in Iranian universities. Local political leaders have urged the government to expedite evacuation efforts and ensure the safe return of all stranded students.

The Ministry of External Affairs said it is monitoring the situation closely and has activated all available diplomatic channels to assist Indian nationals in the conflict zone.
