Major Crackdown on Illegal Mining: 2 Vehicles Seized, Drivers Apprehended in Bijbehara

Anantnag, Mar 28: In a major crackdown on illegal mining, police in Bijbehara seized two vehicles and apprehended their drivers during an operation in the Uranhall area of Anantnag on Saturday.
An official said that a loader bearing registration number JK03A-4136 and a tractor bearing registration number JK03F-1236 were seized while they were allegedly involved in the illegal extraction of sand. The accused have been identified as Shabir Ahmad Dar, a resident of Guree Bijbehara, and Abdul Hameed Dar, a resident of Uranhall.
The operation was carried out under the supervision of SHO Bijbehara, Majid Khan, along with his team.
The official stated that strict action will be taken against individuals found indulging in illegal mining activities, which pose a serious threat to the environment and public resources.
An FIR under number 72/2026 has been registered at Police Station Bijbehara, and further investigation into the matter is underway, he added.
