Kulgam, March 24: Amid a rise in road accidents involving minors, Traffic Police Kulgam on Tuesday said it will initiate strict action against underage driving and riding of two-wheelers in Qazigund and other areas of the district.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Qazigund–Kulgam, Mohd Aslam Chaudhary, said that a tough stance will be adopted against violators, including vehicle owners who allow minors to use their vehicles.

He said that no leniency will be shown to those found violating traffic rules and regulations. “We are going to act tough against violators. No one will be spared,” he said.

The DySP said that the department is also focusing on awareness campaigns to educate minors and their parents about the risks and legal implications of driving without a valid licence.

He urged parents not to allow their children to drive vehicles without proper authorisation, saying such acts often lead to serious accidents.

Traffic Police, he said, has intensified checking across the district to ensure compliance and prevent untoward incidents.

He said the drive aims to enhance road safety and curb the growing trend of minor driving in the district.
